Helpful  Hearts Foundation, Inc. was started by employees of Cremation Society of Wisconsin after seeing a need for this type of program. Serving over 600 families per year, they encounter numerous situations of genuine financial need where the person is not eligible for the state aid program. Families especially hit hard are those dealing with the loss of a child.

Many funeral homes simply turn families away that are financially strapped, and are unwilling to help. Feeling that everyone deserves to be treated with dignity in death, the owner of the Cremation Society, Randall Mundt, came up with the idea to develop a non-profit organization to assist families in achieving this goal.

Helpful Hearts is designed to provide financial assistance to those who are not eligible for the state of Wisconsin Funeral and Cemetery Aid Program (this is something our staff will check for you). If the deceased is eligible for the state funded program, they will provide you with information on how to utilize those funds. If the deceased is not eligible for WFCAP, an application for assistance through the Foundation will be provided to be filled out and turned in. At that point, the Board of Directors will make their decision to approve or deny the request. If the application is approved, the family will be provided with a voucher that they can take to a funeral home of their choice to negotiate the services they desire. The servicing funeral home would submit the voucher to the foundation for direct payment of the approved amount.
